Saharan Dreams

The Sahara Desert: beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. We spent a night in a tent in the middle of the desert, definitely a highlight of the year so far. We arrived after sunset to the tents, welcomed by a bonfire. It was chilly, so we grabbed our jackets and warmed up next to the fire. We then ate a wonderful meal, complete with chicken, couscous, and soup. We then retired to our luxury tents. To be honest, I was very nervous to see the tent and how we were going to stay two nights in the middle of the Sahara (I'm a bit of a neat freak), but, I was very surprised to see a pristine tent, complete with four beds and a bathroom. There was a shower with hot water, a sink, and a toilet behind a curtain in our tent. We went to sleep immediately after being exhausted. Later, I was awaken to what sounded like howling. Of course, the one night my family is in the Sahara, there is a sandstorm beating at our sturdy tents. Because of the storm, we ended up going to a nearby Riad to stay for the second night. We braved the night out.

The next morning we got ready to go out in the desert. I had an outfit planned from before and I was excited to get great pictures. We took some pictures behind our tent (where there were beetles!!) and hit the road to explore.

There was no lack of scenery. Everywhere you looked, there was beauty. It seemed like there was a never-ending road to just drive on and get lost in. The palm trees around us and the privacy, made the experience serene. There was no one around us, and we took pictures, enjoyed the view, and goofed around.

This location was absolutely perfect. We had spent the last night being shaken by a sandstorm, which rarely occurs, according to the host. So after a long, windy night, we got ready and left to go tour around Merzouga. This location was stunning. It was secluded and sunny, providing for beautiful photos. I was so excited to be in the location pictured several times in The Mummy. We all came home and watched it after vacation :) It was serene and I loved spending time (and taking pictures of course!) with my family.
